School Lockdown Notice

UPDATE:  Wednesday, September 4 – 3:03 p.m.

The lockdown at Nipigon-Red Rock District High school has been lifted.  The Ontario Provincial Police have recommended the early dismissal of all students.  School transportation will resume as scheduled.  All extra-curricular school activities are canceled today. 

Thank you for your cooperation.   School operations will resume as normal on Thursday, September 5, 2024. 


UPDATE:  September 4, 2024 at 2:30 p.m.

The lockdown at George O'Neill Public School has been lifted.  Classes will continue as normal until dismissal time. 

At this time, Nipigon-Red Rock District High School remains in lockdown.  We will continue to communicate with families as information from the OPP is updated.

Attention Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,

 

The Nipigon-Red Rock District High School and the George O'Neill Public School have been placed in a lockdown by Ontario Provincial Police at approximately 1:20 p.m. on September 4, 2024 due to a threat of violence in relation to the school. 

 

The Nipigon-Red Rock District High School and George O'Neill Public School have been placed in a lockdown by Ontario Provincial Police at approximately 1:20 p.m. on September 4, 2024 due to a threat of violence in relation to the school.  

 

Nipigon-Red Rock District High School, George O'Neill Public School, and the ²Ýݮֱ²¥ are co-operating with Ontario Provincial Police who are on site to ensure the safety of all students and staff. Students and staff are following the lockdown procedures practiced during the school year.  

 

Police have directed the school and Board to keep students indoors and to instruct parents to stay away from the school until the lockdown has been lifted. Depending on the circumstances, students may be at school beyond normal school hours. Please be reassured that they will be with staff the entire time, and their safety will be our top priority.  

 

This is an evolving situation, and some time may pass before an update is provided to the Board by police. ²Ýݮֱ²¥ is committed to ensuring parents and guardians receive accurate, timely information, and will only provide updates when we are confident that the information we provide is both current and credible. This information will also be posted on the school and Board website, Facebook page and on X (Twitter).
