OurSchool Student Survey Data

The Superior-Greenstone District School Board continues to expand its Mental Health portfolio, recognizing the importance of intentional practices based on comprehensive data.  This approach aims to enhance both student and staff well-being and achievement within the organization.

In November 2023, the school board using the OurSchool Survey platform, conducted a survey of students elementary and secondary students.  The OurSchool survey is a comprehensive tool that gauges various aspects of students' mental health and well-being, providing valuable insights to address their needs.   In the fall of 2023, students across ²Ýݮֱ²¥ (²Ýݮֱ²¥) participated in the annual OurSchool Survey.  The survey highlights our most recent strengths and identifies challenge areas for ²Ýݮֱ²¥ to set supportive goals for our learners.

The insights gathered from the OurSchool Survey play a vital role in understanding the diverse needs and experiences of our students.  By actively engaging with this survey, students have helped to ensure that we have access to invaluable information that informs our decision-making processes and enables us to tailor our support services to better meet the needs of our student body.

In response to the growing importance of mental health and well-being in educational settings, ²Ýݮֱ²¥ is proud to announce the development of a comprehensive 3-year Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy. This innovative initiative is a collaborative effort aimed at fostering a supportive environment for students across the school board.

The strategy, set to launch this spring, has been carefully crafted through the analysis of data gathered from the 'OurSchool' student survey, which actively engages students in providing valuable insights into their mental health needs and challenges. By harnessing the power of this data, the school board is shaping a strategy that is rooted in the real experiences and concerns of its student body.

The overarching goal of the Mental Health and Well-Being Strategy is to create a school environment that promotes not only academic success but also the holistic health and happiness of every student. Through targeted interventions, support services, and proactive initiatives, the strategy aims to address the diverse needs of students and cultivate a culture of well-being throughout the district.

Why data collection is important:

Student Voice - They are the experts in their own experiences. How students view their learning environments is central to ensure we are providing opportunity for learners to be trusted partners in their own education.

Guiding Principles - The data collected provides actionable items for Superior-Greenstone to target within our learning environments.

Evidence Based – Collected data ensures that the direction our board is taking is equitable for students and staff.  Our target goals are not based on opinions or personal bias, these are the student guided stats from within ²Ýݮֱ²¥.

PPM 169- Ministry standards: “School boards are required to annually report to the Ministry of Education on their activities to achieve the requirements outlined in PPM169 and to use data to inform their three-year mental health and addictions strategy and one-year action plan.”

**All data is driven towards evidence-informed student mental health promotion, prevention and early intervention services.
